The rules for using seecrime.com and its data.
These terms govern your use of seecrime.com — the website, the map application,
the reports it generates, and the /api/v1 developer API. By creating an
account or using the service you agree to them.
The service is operated by P4 Security Solutions LLC ("we", "us"),
the billing entity of P4 Companies.
What the data is, and what it is not
Read this before you rely on anything here
seecrime.com republishes public records from city open-data portals.
Those records are incomplete, are corrected and withdrawn without notice, arrive on
each city's own schedule, and reflect reports made to police — not
convictions, and not a finding that any offence occurred.
- Coverage varies by city. Some cities publish an incident's occurrence
date; others publish the date it was reported. Some publish no arrest or time
information at all. Where we know a field is not published, we show it as
unavailable rather than as a zero — but the underlying gaps are the
publisher's, not ours.
- Data is delayed. Cities publish on their own cadence, and some feeds
stall or freeze upstream. A quiet map may mean a quiet week or a stalled feed.
- Nothing here is a safety guarantee. A risk score is a statement
about what was reported in an area over a window of time. It is not a
prediction, it is not advice about whether any place or person is safe, and it
is never a statement about a person or a specific property. The score carries
that notice with it, on the map and in the API response.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use seecrime.com, its data, or its API:
- To make, inform, or support any decision about housing, tenancy,
employment, credit, insurance, or eligibility for any benefit or
service concerning an identifiable person. This prohibition applies
wherever you are and whatever law governs you. It is not conditional on any
particular statute: seecrime.com is not a consumer reporting,
credit reporting, or tenant screening agency; nothing it produces is a
consumer report, credit report, investigative report, or background
check; and it must not be used as one. Among the laws this
restriction reflects are the United States Fair Credit Reporting Act,
state and provincial consumer- and credit-reporting legislation, and fair
housing, human rights and anti-discrimination law — but the
restriction binds you under these terms regardless of which of them
applies to you.
- To harass, stalk, intimidate, or target any person or group.
- To discriminate against any person or group, including on the basis of a
protected characteristic.
- To re-identify individuals from incident records, or to combine our data with
other sources for that purpose.
- To scrape the site outside the documented API, to evade rate limits, or to
resell the raw data as your own product.
- For any unlawful purpose, or to break any city portal's own terms.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules.
Your account
- You are responsible for what happens under your credentials. Use a password you
do not use elsewhere, and tell us promptly if you believe it has been exposed.
- Organisation accounts: the owner and administrators control membership and can
see organisation-scoped content, including datasets members upload.
- You must be old enough to form a contract where you live, and at least 13.
Paid plans
Paid tiers are described on the pricing page. Fees, seat counts,
and included features are those stated at the time you subscribe. Enterprise terms may
be set out in a separate written agreement, which controls where it conflicts with
these terms.
The API
API keys are issued to an organisation and must not be shared outside it. Keys are
rate limited; the limits and the response contract are documented at
/developers. We may change the API, and we publish a payload
revision date so you can detect a change. Treat a key like a password — anyone holding
it can read your organisation's quota.
Our content and yours
- The underlying public records are the publishing agencies'. Our compilation,
classification, scoring, interface, and written analysis are ours.
- Data you upload stays yours. You grant us only the licence needed to
store it, geocode it, and display it back to your organisation. We do not use
it to train models and we do not sell it.
Availability
We aim to keep the service running and the data current, and we publish live
coverage state at /status. We do not promise uninterrupted
availability, and scheduled work or an upstream outage may interrupt it.
Disclaimer and liability
The service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind to the fullest
extent the law allows, including any warranty that the data is accurate, complete, or
fit for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total
liability arising out of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the
twelve months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes and governing law
We may update these terms; we will change the “last updated” date and,
for material changes, notify account holders. These terms are governed by the laws of
the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Nothing in this
paragraph removes a protection that the mandatory consumer law of your own country or
province gives you and that cannot be waived by agreement.
